Step 2 if your floor has slate tile and not ceramic you can try using a tile seal available at your local tile distributor. Let the paint dry for 24 to 48 hours until it is completely dry.

The paint won t dry for weeks and then it will just bubble and flake off. Use a roller to apply paint evenly to the tile. Sand the surface of the tile with 100 grit sandpaper. Paint over the tile with a bonding primer.

Fine grit 400 grit or higher sandpaper is sufficient for deglossing the tile prior to painting. It can handle substantial wear and tear more on that later in this post. Tile paint works best on vertical surfaces that receive less abuse including backsplashes wall tile and wainscot tile. We contemplated replacing the tile but have another long term plan in mind and didn t want to go to the trouble or expense so decided to use ceramic.

Wipe the tile down to clean it and remove any sanding dust. When painting tiles with epoxy or tile paint make sure the area is well. These tiles are narrow with a rounded top and come in smooth finish textured and molded finishes. They are a great way to trim a tiled shower wall or backsplash.
