My current rear surround speakers are mounted on the wall near the ceiling beside the sofa.
Wall mounting rear ported speakers.
Give those ports room to breathe and you ll experience a much more even frequency response across the soundstage the ability for the left and right speakers to create a lifelike representation of the audio experience.
I will be adding 2 more speakers soon and want to expand to 7 1.
Hi all i am considering purchasing a pair of sonus faber liuto towers.
My problem is that i can only position them so that the back of the speaker is only about one foot from the wall behind it.
Is this the ideal placement.
Any back ported speaker with a port diameter of 2 for example will work just fine placed up to a wall as long as there is 2 of space behind the port.
I will place the 2 new surround speakers at ear height on both sides of the sofa.

In a perfect world set your listening position more than 3m 9 8 feet from the wall behind the speaker regardless of the distance of the speaker to the wall assuming normal setup.
Any thoughts on this.
This is the boominess that people experience when a rear ported speaker is place closed to a rear wall.
Not only will this help with the soundstage it will also change the relationship of the rear port to your wall by changing the angle of reflection.
One more tip is to ensure that your rear ported speakers aren t placed on a bookshelf or against a wall.
Even if you are using the front speakers above 80hz or so it seems like a bad idea to mount rear ported spaekers on the wall.
Your other option is sealed acoustic suspension.
If i had to mount speakers on the wall i would look for front ported speakers.
Rear ports shoot out lf energy directly against a rear wall which sharply reflects is back to reinforce the original front wave.
I have no other options.
And oh look that just happens to be the minimum distance to the wall recommended by genelec for their back ported speakers what a coincidence.
They are a rear ported speaker and come highly rated.
